The 2020-21 Spending Review – Association of Colleges Proposals on Apprenticeships

The 2020-21 Spending Review – Association of Colleges Proposals on Apprenticeships

I am sure colleagues will share UVAC’s disappointment that the AoC in its recommendations on the 2020-1 spending round has proposed that Degree Apprenticeships should not be funded by the Apprenticeship Levy.  How the AoC can effectively argue that the NHS should not be allowed to spend its levy payments on Degree Apprenticeships for Registered Nurses, or Police Forces to spend their levy payments on Degree Apprenticeships for new Police Constables is staggering.  Has AoC decided to abandon its commitment to the Apprenticeship Reforms and development of Apprenticeship as an employer led programme with a focus on productivity?

UVAC values our college partners and over the years has done all we can to promote HE/FE partnership.  We are asking the AoC to rethink its position and to campaign with UVAC for the public sector to have its Apprenticeship levy payments ring fenced and for decisions on the prioritisation of the Apprenticeship levy pot to be determined by the priorities outlined in the Government’s Industrial Strategy.
