Young People and Work: UVAC Response
Last week, 28th May 2026, saw the release of the interim data and diagnostic report by former Minister, the Rt Hon Alan Milburn who is leading the independent review into young people and work.
It is a good read and worth taking a look at the complexities within the analysis as it describes, a “lost generation”. From headlines such as “bedroom generation of phone-addicted young people fuelling UK economic inactivity” to “opportunities shrinking for too many young people” and “social media doomscrolling is destroying young lives” the universal view is that the risk of one in six young people set to be out of work, education or training by the start of the next decade is a shared responsibility.
UVAC is working to ensure that its members are considered as part of the solution to addressing youth unemployment, skills under-utilisation and are recognised for their role in lifting the ceiling on how far individuals can progress. Members have all championed the right to progression to higher paid careers and the professions in and through work.
