UVAC Pledges Support to the Technician Commitment

The University Vocational Awards Council (UVAC) is proud to announce its official support for the Technician Commitment, a sector-wide initiative hosted by the UK Institute for Technical Skills and Strategy, designed to ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technical professionals in higher education and research.

As the UK’s leading voice for higher and degree-level technical education, UVAC plays a pivotal role in championing high-quality vocational pathways, including apprenticeships, across universities and employer networks. By joining the Technician Commitment, UVAC continues its dedication to advancing the status and development of technical professionals, who are vital to the UK’s productivity, innovation and research capability.

As a supporter, UVAC will advocate for the four key themes of the Technician Commitment: visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability. UVAC will also support its members in embedding these principles within their institutions, promoting best practice and policy alignment in support of the technical community.

Dr. Mandy Crawford-Lee, Chief Executive of UVAC, commented:

“Technicians play a critical role in delivering high-quality education, research and innovation. At UVAC, we believe their contribution deserves full recognition and support. Signing the Technician Commitment aligns with our mission to promote technical and vocational excellence, and we are delighted to work alongside other organisations to strengthen and celebrate the technician workforce.”

Carly Dellar, Operations Manager, Technician Commitment said:

We are proud UVAC has taken this step in supporting technical professionals. As a leading advocate in the UK’s higher education and degree-level sector, we are keen to see how UVAC will promote the visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability of the technical workforce. We welcome them and their member organisations to the Technician Commitment.”
