This year our national conference is particularly special. In 2019, UVAC celebrates its 20 year anniversary and what started out as an interest group has become a highly effective lobbying and advocacy body with a growing and highly valued number of higher education providers and corportate organisations in membership.

So the conference will be UVAC’s anniversary celebration as well as the annual event for those engaged in the delivery and support of higher and degree apprenticeships, higher level skills and work-based learning.

It is a pleasure to set out another exciting programme that will give practitioners and thought-leaders an opportunity to showcase and explore developed partnerships and demonstrate the range of outstanding and effective approaches (including in research) to successful outcomes in technical, vocational and professional education, training and skills including in apprenticeship.

The title for our conference is ‘The Future of HE in Technical & Professional Education and Skills’. Key themes include:

• Innovation in delivery and assessment
• Apprenticeship pedagogy and learning solutions
• Outreach, social mobility and progression
• Assuring quality and ensuring quality improvements
• Degree apprenticeships as disruptors
• From higher education strategy to impact on recruitment and employer engagement
• New aspects: HE displacement vis-a-vis new markets
• HE in the context of the post-18 review and Higher Technical Education (Level 4-5) Review

The programme is still in development but we will keep you updated as we confirm speakers and workshop ideas.

In addition, we will be revealing the initial findings of our joint research with Middlesex, Sheffield Hallam and Staffordshire universities, funded by the Edge Foundation, which is investigating and securing the best conditions for the sustainability of degree apprenticeships including the details of the HEI Centre for Apprenticeships; a self-funded research and think-tank network, convened by UVAC.

The fee for delegates who belong to a UVAC member organisation is the same price as in 2018. We offer one of the best value for money conference events on behalf of the HE sector, on the subjects and policies that UVAC has been influencing and shaping for the last two decades. Happy Birthday to us!
