Raising awareness of HTQs and their benefits with learners

Raising awareness of HTQs and their benefits with learners

UVAC members are invited to register for next month’s HTQ online network meeting Wednesday 9th July 2025 10:00-11:00.

In the session Maria Gibson and Connor Herron from Newcastle College will showcase their approach to the promotion of HTQs, starting with an overview of their HTQ journey, including the key considerations and steps they have taken to raise awareness of HTQs to learners, and the challenges, barriers & successes experienced so far.

Andrew will then discuss CMI’s approach to promoting HTQs from an Awarding Organisation/Membership body perspective. CMI have recently undertaken a number of marketing activities to raise awareness and the profile of HTQs to a network of partners and members. Andrew will share some insights and discuss key challenges and future opportunities for HTQs.

As with previous sessions we are keen to hear from UVAC members about their own experiences, and to discuss ideas about how we can, together, raise awareness of HTQs, and the role DfE and Skills England should play – so please come ready to join in the discussion!

About the presenters:

  • Maria Gibson is Director of Higher Education for Newcastle College Group the largest provider of college-based higher education in the UK. Maria oversees the group’s higher education strategy, working closely with colleges to deliver high-quality, accessible programmes that meet the needs of students, employers and local communities.
  • Connor Herron is Head of Higher Education, at Newcastle College University Centre where he leads on the development and approval of Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) across NCG. Connor is focused on supporting colleagues across the university centre in developing high-quality, career-focused higher education programmes that support student success and meet regional skills demands.
