Most HEIs delivering apprenticeships have faced challenges with accurately forecasting revenue, return on investment and understanding their cost model. This has created adversity, uncertainty and reduced confidence in the programme and others in the Skills and Growth levy era.
To address this need, UVAC have commissioned Lockhart Hawkins, experts in Apprenticeship funding and compliance to build a ‘CFO Toolkit for Apprenticeships and Technical Education’.
This toolkit contains guidance written specifically for Chief Financial Officers and leaders to demonstrate the potential for apprenticeship provision as an essential product within the Higher Education space, but also give practical tools to budget, forecast and deliver with confidence.
Through a series of guides and practical tools, the toolkit will give greater assurance to HEIs of the revenue, the timing of revenue and profitability of programmes. It also includes case studies of effective financial models of delivery from within the HEI and non-HEI space and also addresses how to take account of risk in delivery.
Launching in August 2025, the toolkit will also be accompanied by a four-part webinar series that will be complimentary for UVAC members on Understanding Apprenticeship financial management, delivered by David Lockhart-Hawkins, Managing Director of Lockhart Hawkins in partnership with the Strategic Development Network (SDN). This series will help new and existing apprenticeship providers with understanding how to manage the funding and finances of apprenticeship provision, meet compliance requirements and deliver with assurance.
