Higher Education, Skills and Work-based Learning (HESWBL) is the only journal to focus on the interface between higher education and the workplace.
Access to the journal is free for those in UVAC membership, in-year.
Covering higher level skills, higher level work-based and work-integrated learning and higher education, the journal publishes articles with strong impact implications for practice and policy development. Providing broad international coverage of issues, developments and innovation, the journal showcases work around employer engagement, work-integrated learning, cooperative education, graduate employability, occupational competence, academic and professional standards and workforce development. With a global readership and a global authorship, there are more than 80,000 papers downloaded each year.
The journal is truly international in coverage, with members of the review board based at institutions across the UK, Europe, Australia and the US. Submissions mirror this geographic spread with authors from across Africa, Australasia, Europe, the United Arab Emirates and North America.

At the end of 2025, UVAC is making available another special issue titled “The last decade of apprenticeships in HE: breaking the echo chamber for future readiness” which will be the first Open Access edition.
