In June 2012 Skills CFA and the Association for Project Management (APM) launched the Higher Apprenticeship in Project Management. The Level 4 Diploma in Project Management is the technical content within the Apprenticeship; it is a QCF Level 4, 120 credit qualification that combines both knowledge and competence based learning and assessment.
The first apprentices started in September 2012 with a number of different corporate organisations. Currently APM have confirmation from 40 employers of over 150 apprenticeship places by September 2013 and expect a similar or greater uptake by September 2014. A number of employers already engaged with the scheme have expressed their desire to have their apprentices move onto foundation or bachelors degree programmes once they have finished the apprenticeship; this demand is also apparent in the organisations who will be taking on apprentices by this September.
The APM, in association with UVAC, are planning to hold a meeting in London on the 19th September 2013 with universities that are interested in developing a progression route from this scheme onto degree programmes. The venue is will be confirmed nearer the time with the meeting to start at 10.30 and finish at 13.00.
