UVAC chief executive, Dr Mandy Crawford-Lee and UVAC Associate, Dr Nicky Westwood are guest editing the first Open Access edition of UVAC’s official journal, Higher Education, Skills and Work-based Learning (HESWBL). The cost of publication is being met by UVAC so there is no APC to be paid by the author(s).
Check out the details HERE, including how to submit. Deadline for submission is tight – 31 May 2025 – for publication in November, but is an excellent opportunity to showcase your own research and/or perspectives on actual delivery or emerging developments in higher and degree apprenticeships.
The Open Access issue is a celebration of 10 years of degree apprenticeships.
The title “The last decade of apprenticeships in HE: breaking the echo chamber for future readiness” is intended to give space for reflection on what has been designed and implemented since the introduction of degree apprenticeships in 2015 (which accelerated HE engagement) and an opportunity to examine overseas examples too, by way of contrast and comparison.
Potential themes to be covered include:
Discursive shifts in national policy;
Global perspectives;
Lesson in pedagogy and practice from institutional viewpoints including consortiums of providers;
Comparisons between England/UK approach and other countries;
Language limitations in apprenticeship policy and reforms;
Case studies featuring and/or reflections on creative or innovative strategic and/or operational practice;
New approaches to assessment.
