Academic staff and administrators with responsibilities for managing APEL and widening participation within higher education institutions and further education colleges.
Seminar aims:
Most HE providers have developed academic and administrative processes that enable mature students to obtain recognition for their prior experiential learning. However, these can sometimes seem opaque and bureaucratic for those with no previous knowledge of higher education’s expectations and requirements and may be potentially demotivating for applicants. In this practical seminar, three HE providers will discuss and demonstrate how they are using interactive Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to help students map their own experiential skills, either against general criteria for access to HE or for making specific APEL claims. Participants will also have an opportunity for ‘hands-on’ engagement with the tools being demonstrated and to ask questions as well as providing feedback on the tools’ effectiveness.
